Students Jam On It!
Fig. 1: Orange students

As we consider our intellectual and personal histories, we can re-evaluate who we are. At Science Leadership Academy (SLA), we ask students to consider the following questions during their freshman year:
  • Who am I?
  • How do I interact with the environment?
  • How does the environment affect me?

Students have had the opportunity to investigate aspects of African American history to better understand what it means to be an American, an individual and part of a community. Specific projects that we have been working on are listed below. Click on each link to learn more about each project.
  • Civil War WikiBook - Students followed/created the experiences of people in the Civil War and created "personal profiles." Thanks to Ms. Clara Badimon for coordinating this project!

  • Ethnomusicology- Students studied the influence of African and African American music on American culture.
  • Civil Rights Commercials - Students created 30-second commercials that capture a debate, argument of position thin the 20th century Civil Rights era.
